Study Trip to Ghent, Belgium (M2 IMAIC)
Testimony of student Anja Mary, from the 2024-2025 M2 IMAIC cohort, about her study trip to Ghent, Belgium.
On February 24 and 25, our entire IMAIC cohort had the chance to travel to Ghent, Belgium, on a trip organized by Jean-Marie Dallet, professor and co-director of our Master’s program.
This trip allowed us to quickly grasp the importance of Ghent’s cultural diversity, and more broadly, that of Belgium. The country stands out for its dynamic artistic scene, its innovative cultural venues, and the preservation of an exceptional heritage. It also continues to tell a socially engaged story through meaningful symbols, personalities, and institutions.
We were fortunate to meet the president of the Liedts-Meesen Foundation, director of Zebrastraat, a cultural and social venue with an innovative economic model. This was an opportunity for Mr. Dallet, our Master’s director, to present in detail the exhibition shown at the Zebrastraat exhibition spaces, where he contributed to the selection of artists, curation, scenography, and mediation of the exhibition.
To complement this discovery, we also explored two emblematic museums of the Flemish art scene: the Museum of Fine Arts, MSK Gent, as well as its contemporary art museum, S.M.A.K. These two visits enriched our artistic culture with presentations of world-renowned artists as well as Flemish artists and emerging talents from the Flemish scene.
A must-see stop was the Saint Bavo Cathedral and The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, a work created by the Van Eyck brothers in the 15th century and exhibited within this building. Visitors to the city’s Museum of Fine Arts were able to observe the ongoing restoration work on this masterpiece.
The entire cohort thanks Mr. Dallet and Ms. Nasri as well as the teaching and administrative team of our IMAIC Master for this enriching experience.
