Stages

Doing an internship is an essential step in an educational path and sometimes even the start of a professional career.

Each year, EM-Sorbonne students complete nearly 1,000 internships within more than 700 host companies across 30 countries. They have access to the internship office services (contact details at the bottom of the page), which assists them with all the steps related to preparing their internship agreement. It is also possible to receive advice on writing CVs and cover letters, searching for host companies, and understanding current legislation.

When to do an internship?

EM-Sorbonne offers its students the opportunity to complete internships in companies throughout their studies.

Years 1 and 2 (Licence 1 & 2)

Students in their first and second years may, under certain conditions, complete an internship with a formal agreement (convention de stage) for a minimum duration of 4 weeks at the end of the academic year.

This internship is optional and subject to eligibility requirements.

More information on the optional internships for Licence 1 and Licence 2.

Year 3 (Licence 3)

All third-year students have the opportunity to complete an internship, which requires writing a report and giving an oral defense.

Students in the Licence 3 Financial Management and Licence 3 Strategy and Business Economics tracks who wish to continue into the Master 1 at EM-Sorbonne must complete an internship (or equivalent professional experience) of more than 6 weeks between their Licence 3 and Master 1. This internship will lead to a report whose grade will count towards their Master 1.

Warning : Double Degreee Programs

Rules to be observed regarding the preparation and signing of internship agreements in the Double Degree program:

  • If the student’s tasks are primarily related to Management, an academic supervisor should be appointed from UFR 06 to ensure proper evaluation of the internship report. Conversely, if the tasks are more related to Cinema, History, or Law, the academic supervisor should be chosen from the other relevant UFR.
  • If the academic supervisor is from UFR 06, the agreement must be signed at the EMS internship office with Ms. Duval. If the academic supervisor is from the other UFR, the agreement must be signed at their respective student affairs office.

Master

Students may complete an optional internship starting in the first year of the Master program.

In the second year of the Master, an internship of at least 3 months, followed by a thesis and an oral defense, is mandatory in most programs. (see detailed RCCs)

Practical information

Internship agreement procedure

The internship is governed by a tripartite agreement (convention de stage) between the student, the host company, and the university. Any change to the contract terms requires an amendment to the agreement.

The PStage application allows Paris 1 students to manage their internship agreements and amendments online.

To validate your internship agreement

Documents required

  • Internship agreement signed by you and the company.
  • Proof of enrollment for the current academic year.
  • Proof of personal liability insurance covering the internship period.

Important

  • Submit your complete file at least 10 working days before the internship starts (excluding weekends, public holidays, and vacation periods).
  • No agreement can be processed once the internship has started. Agreements will not be signed retroactively.

  • Except for Master 2 programs, internships must end by August 31.
  • In Master 2, internships may continue until December 31, but must start no later than September 15.

Following these guidelines ensures smooth processing of your agreement and a stress-free internship start.

However, an internship must be compensated once it exceeds 2 consecutive months (equivalent to 44 days at 7 hours per day), or 309 internship hours.

The amount of the stipend must appear in the internship agreement.

The minimum hourly rate is €4.35 per hour, corresponding to 15% of the French social security hourly ceiling (€29 × 0.15).

The host company may choose to pay above this minimum rate.
