Study Trip to Budapest, Hungary (M2 LMD)
A Week of Professional Discovery and Cultural Immersion
From June 1 to 7, 2025, students from the Master 2 in Logistics, Marketing and Distribution (LMD) at the École de Management de la Sorbonne – Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne – took part in a study trip to Budapest. The program combined the exploration of Hungary’s cultural heritage with professional visits and academic insights directly related to their curriculum.
The trip began with an evening at the Hungarian State Opera, where students attended a performance of Mozart’s Idomeneo. Beyond the artistic experience, it was an opportunity to discover the city's neo-Renaissance architecture and its musical heritage. A visit to the Central Market Hall, rooted in the city’s commercial history, allowed students to explore local food practices and their integration into the urban fabric.
Throughout the week, students also visited key landmarks such as the Buda Castle, the Fisherman’s Bastion, and the Hungarian Parliament. These visits offered perspectives on the symbolic construction of power, the role of heritage in national identity, and the dynamics of cultural tourism. The afternoon at the Széchenyi Thermal Baths provided a more sensory and embodied experience of the city, through one of its most deeply rooted traditions.
Professional Insights into Logistics, Industry and Marketing
The trip also included several company visits, offering concrete illustrations of the concepts studied in class. At Gedeon Richter, a major player in the Central European pharmaceutical industry, students explored the company’s logistics and marketing structure, as well as its historical development through an interactive museum visit. A discussion with members of the marketing department provided valuable insights into the challenges of international distribution in the health sector.
Later in the week, the visit to Bayer Construction shed light on the building and construction industry, with a focus on the use of digital tools. Students were introduced to Dalux, a 3D modeling software used by designers, and toured a warehouse where prefabricated bathroom modules are assembled and prepared for delivery. This visit also offered an opportunity to observe Hungarian workplace culture and project management practices in action.
Although the planned visit to the Audi factory in Győr was cancelled, the program maintained a strong balance between academic enrichment, cultural discovery and professional exposure. The trip concluded with a Danube river cruise at sunset—an informal and memorable way to reflect on the week’s learning while taking in the illuminated landmarks of Budapest.
